Philadelphia Eagles Give Local Teen Vote of Confidence

Thursday, ABC’s The View had a very emotional segment on bullying. Philadelphia teen Nadin Khoury, 13, was the victim of a vicious attack by a group of schoolmates where he was drug across the snowy ground, placed in a tree, and hung up on a seven foot wrought-iron fence where they left him. Video of the attack, taken by one of the attackers, has been removed from You Tube, most likely for legal reasons. As you can guess, the young assailants are in big trouble, having been arrested during the investigation of this unnecessary crime.

Love and Reality: Shaquille O’Neal Edition

When will society’s thirst for reality t.v. disappear? With the onslaught of sports figures and, ahem, figurines filling up our flat screens with their drama and fab lifetyles, we can expect to see more wives, girlfriends, “baby mommas” and the men who love/hate them. Face it, folks, this formula is WINNING.

Shaquille and Hoopz

This time, it’s Shaq’s turn. The Big Aistotle and the object of his affection, Nicole “Hoopz” Alexander, of Flavor of Love fame will have their own reality show. You can get all the deets from Ms. Munroe over at Jocks and Stiletto Jill.

Volkswagen’s Super Bowl Commercial Already at 6 Million Hits

I am a VW Passat driver. I love my car, so this commercial, The Force, probably makes me warmer and fuzzier than most. This spot speaks to the kid in us all. I vividly remember running around the house as a child in my own fantasy land, and there certainly were times when my parents “made things happen” that completely blew my mind. The lil’ fella in this commercial was hilarious in his shock and awe that his “powers” finally worked and the force was with really with him.

This commercial is a winner because it taps into the imagination with a simplicity and pureness that we all want to hold on to – that we can do ANYTHING.

6 million You Tube hits before Super Bowl Sunday? Could this be an unprecedented feat?

Great job Volkswagen. Can’t wait to test drive the new model!

Charles Barkley Invades Cyberspace

The good folks over at the Turner Sports and Entertainment Digital Network decided to launch a Charles Barkley-centered website, CharlesBarkley.com. What say Ballertainment? Ingenious.

Charles Barkley

Charles is one of, if not the funniest and most charismatic sports personalities on the tube. Is he perfect? By no means. But, the man works his shtick like no other. Hands down, the NBA on TNT crew (EJ, Kenny, and Charles) are the most entertaining of any sport. Throw the ever handsome Chris Webber in the mix and its priceless.

Highlights include live chats with Charles, and his “Spanish Word of the Day.” The site consists of many videos from the show, but make no mistake, Charles usually steals it. One of my favorite segments is ‘Who He Play For?” where Charles is asked to name a players current team. You can see for yourself here. Did Kenny really say Ernie looked like Monty Hall? Pure comedy.

The website banner/header could be nicer, and the video archive is missing Barkley’s golfing escapades, but all in all, I think they’re off to a great start.

Resurgent Chicago Bulls Making Great Strides

This year’s surprising Chicago Bulls are establishing themselves as a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference of the NBA.  They have accomplished this while sustaining long absences associated with injuries to key players Carlos Boozer (6 weeks) and Joakim Noah (8-10 weeks?).

Chicago Bulls

Derrick Rose has played himself into star status and a possible MVP choice with his consistently stellar penetration scoring, enhanced assists, and much improved 3-point shot.  To date, the team is 34 and 14.  Minus Noah, they are battling Miami for the second best record in the East.  Wow!  Rose has been sensational.  On more than a few nights he carried the team when it stalled offensively, flashing the kind of grit and determination reminiscent of that displayed by champions.

Meet Faith Rein – The Anti-Basketball Wife?

Udonis Haslem and Faith Rein - Photo from SocialMiami.com

Faith Rein is Miami Heat power forward Udonis Haslem’s lady. They have been together since the beginning of time in terms of sports relationships. Rain was a sprinter at the University of Florida where Haslem played collegiate ball.

Stacey Russell of the Miami New Times Blogs caught up with Faith and asked her opinion of VH1’s hit show, Basketball Wives. Ms. Faith threw a touch of shade at first, but admitted that she watches the show.

Hair Battle Royale at SB XLV – Matthews vs. Polamalu

Pittsburgh Steeler’s safety Troy Polamalu won’t be the only player hawking hair products in Dallas, TX. According to SportsBiz with Darren Rovell, the beauty products company Suave, has enlisted the locks of Clay Matthews, linebacker for the Green Bay Packers, to endorse their men’s hair care product line.

And This Too Is A Sports Quote – Charles Woodson

The president don’t want to come watch us at the Super Bowl, guess what? We’re going to see him.” ~ Charles Woodson, Green Bay Packers

Charles Woodson

This statement made me chuckle. Isn’t Woody cute? He all but guaranteed a Packers win in Super Bowl XLV. You see, President Obama indicated that he would attend the Super Bowl if the Chicago Bears (his hometown team) made it all the way. Since the Bears’ quest for a ring ended Sunday with a loss to Woodson’s Packers, I guess our beloved POTUS will be watching from the White House.

Championship teams always make a trip to the White House, but the future Hall of Fame cornerback may have to eat his words if they don’t make it past the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Black and Yellow and Wiz Khalifa might be making the trip instead. Well……maybe not Khalifa.
