GQ Mag Touts its 25 Coolest Athletes with a Giveaway

The February issue of GQ Mag is going to be FUN and SEXY. The special edition will have 25 covers representing the magazine’s idea of the coolest athletes of all time. If you are a collector this offering is a dream come true.

The featured athletes include Muhammad Ali, Dr. J, Michael Jordan, and Arnold Palmer, who’s photo is very 60’s cool and bad ass.

A special gift, a poster of all the covers, is being offered with subscription, or if you’d like to access the issue and covers right away, a GQ app is available here at Itunes.

For me, the most enjoyable aspect of cover collections is the photography, not necessarily the subject. I must say, GQ did a great job in selecting these covers because ALL the photos are great. Now, I must decide which one to buy first!

Kobe Bryant’s Legend to be Cemented at Grauman’s Chinese Theater

It’s always historic to be a “first.”

First man to walk the moon. First African-American to play in the majors. First woman to sit on the Supreme Court. You get the gist.

Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant - GQ Magazine

Kobe Bryant will be the first athlete to set his hands and feet into the cement at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA. While this may not stack up against the aforementioned occurrences, its still major in its own right.

The ceremony will be incorporated into All-Star weekend festivities and take place February 19, 2011. A fête usually reserved for Hollywood stars, this gesture speaks volumes to the impact that Bryant has as a Los Angeles Laker, and one of the greatest players in NBA history.

What does the five-time NBA champion think? “To be a part of such elite company is a tremendous honor. I’m proud to be the first athlete to be recognized,” Bryant said in a statement.

The 2011 NBA All-Star weekend will be held in Los Angeles February 18th – 21st.

Ballanthropy: Terrell Owens Takes On Alzheimer’s Disease

NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens visited CNN studios Thursday to discuss Alzheimer’s disease and the ways it has affected his family. T.O.’s maternal grandmother, Alice, was diagnosed with the disease in 1996.

In the interview, T.O. points out that family members suffer greatly when a loved has Alzheimer’s disease. I know first hand the toll it can take. My paternal grandmother, and my mother’s sister both suffered from the disease, and my relatives who were most responsible for their care and well-being experienced emotional and physical stress and illnesses as a result.

President Obama signed the National Alzheimer’s Project Act on January 4, 2011. Kudos to the Alzheimer Association, and people like T.O. for feverishly supporting the cause and keeping the fight against this disease in the forefront.

If you or someone you know has a loved one suffering from Alzheimer’s, or displaying signs of dementia, visit www.alz.org for resources and information.

UPDATE: Downtown Los Angeles NFL Stadium

I am reserving my excitement still, but the talk of a new 64,000 seat, state-of-the-art football stadium is heating up here in Los Angeles.

Wednesday, city officials offered their support for a new mixed-use NFL facility in the downtown area near Staples Center. The facility would replace part of the L.A. Convention Center, and the aim is to lure an existing NFL team and bring more conventions and conferences to the city. This will also require more hotels to be built in the area, and ultimately this project will give a much needed boost to the economy and most importantly, the job market.

Let Them Play – Can the NFLPA Avert a Lockout?

Today, the NFLPA launched the campaign – Let Us Play Day.

This is an opportunity for the players and fans of the National Football League to stand up and have their voices heard on a topic that can have serious implications on the game of professional football – A LOCKOUT.

The all out blitz (no pun intended) includes a Facebook page, Ustream, Twitter hash tags and pages, such as @NFLPA, @NFLLockout and #LetUsPlay. Individual players, like Jets Safety Jim Leonhard, are also promoting the campaign on their websites.

The Michael Vick Sweepstakes

Game on, folks.

Sunday night, on his debut show, CNN’s Piers Morgan presented a friendly wager to Oprah Winfrey – which of the two would first land a coveted interview with Philadelphia Eagle’s QB Michael Vick?

The bet came about when Oprah declined to answer Piers’ question about what advice she would give to Vick. Winfrey is in the process of trying to book the interview and wants to save any conversation she has for the comeback player.

Barbara Walters is also seeking an interview and wants in on the bet? Oh what fun. My guess is that two of the three land an interview, and one of them will be Lady O.

Terry Bradshaw Gets UGGly

What are NFL studio analysts doing during the games?

THIS:

Terry Bradshaw

Terry Bradshaw in his Ugg Boots

Saturday, Mr. Terry Bradshaw was caught ‘suited and booted,” LITERALLY. NFL ON FOX tweeted this photo of the Hall of Fame QB turned analyst kicked back during a break.

I’m not mad at Terry. Who knows? Maybe Tom Brady hooked him up with extra product from his UGG endorsement deal! Maybe they can do an UGG australia commercial the way Charles Barkley does with the NBA players for T Mobile.

Ok, maybe not. Keep warm, Terry!
