First man to walk the moon. First African-American to play in the majors. First woman to sit on the Supreme Court. You get the gist.

Kobe Bryant will be the first athlete to set his hands and feet into the cement at Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA. While this may not stack up against the aforementioned occurrences, its still major in its own right.

The ceremony will be incorporated into All-Star weekend festivities and take place February 19, 2011. A fête usually reserved for Hollywood stars, this gesture speaks volumes to the impact that Bryant has as a Los Angeles Laker, and one of the greatest players in NBA history.

What does the five-time NBA champion think? “To be a part of such elite company is a tremendous honor. I’m proud to be the first athlete to be recognized,” Bryant said in a statement.

The 2011 NBA All-Star weekend will be held in Los Angeles February 18th – 21st.
