Texas Rangers fan loses life in unfortunate accident at ballpark

Thursday, a fan fell 20 feet after reaching over a rail at Rangers Ballpark to catch a ball from a player.

A 38-year-old firefighter identified as Shannon Stone attended the game with his son and beckoned for a ball from Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton. In the process of catching the ball, Stone fell over the railing to a concrete area below.

We had a very tragic accident tonight and one of our fans lost their life reaching over the rail trying to get a ball,” team President Nolan Ryan said. “As an organization, and as our team members and our staff, we’re very heavy-hearted about this, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

This is not a singular occurrence, as a fan suffered injuries from falling at Rangers Ballpark one year ago.

I feel bad for Mr. Stones son having witnessed his father’s fall, and also for Josh Hamilton. Players oblige fans all the time by giving away foul and errant balls, but I’m sure they never expect such a tragic outcome.

THE IRONY: Jenn Sterger Relegated To Ragging On Other Women For Being Sports Sex Objects

Jenn Sterger rose to unsolicited fame when Brett Favre sent photos of his “manpower” to her cell phone, in an attempt to make her his jumpoff. That controversy brought Favre’s career to a head (pun intended) and ultimately put a lid on Jenn’s career as a game day reporter for the New York Jets.

Fast forward some months and Sterger parlayed her 15 minutes into a few short-lived opportunities on Versus and Fuel TV. Now, the men’s entertainment site, Brobible, has tapped Sterger to host their Hottie Index, a weekly video series.

Mayweather Jr. Loses Appeal in Pacquiao Defamation Suit

Back in 2009 Manny Pacquiao filed suit against Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Floyd Mayweather Sr., Floyd’s uncle and trainer Roger Mayweather, Mayweather Promotions and Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer, who head up Golden Boy Promotions. The suit claims the Mayweather camp defamed his character by falsely accusing him of cheating by using performance-enhancing drugs. Pacquiao maintains he is not on the “juice.”

Fast forward to June 2011 and Mayweather Jr., skips his court-ordered deposition. Pacquiao’s lawyer sought a default judgement, Mayweather’s legal team filed for an emergency appeal, and now the judge has denied that appeal.

Sorry, Floyd, you’re gonna have to talk.

Stay tuned.

Obviously, we know these two won’t be fighting any time soon.

PSA: Boston Red Sox Join “It Gets Better” Campaign [Video]

Allow me to be blunt, if you will.  Bullying is some bullshit.

No one benefits from being picked on, singled out, abused, or driven to suicide.  Those that bully do so because of ignorance, fear, lack of manners and a need to make themselves feel better.

The It Gets Better Project and The Trevor Project were born of unfortunate necessity to bring awareness to the bullying of teens who belong to the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgendered) community.

The Boston Red Sox lent their support for the cause by producing the following PSA….

Sports have always lived in the macho zone, and historically anything or anyone gay or “soft” ran the risk of being ostracized and ridiculed.  Thankfully, things are beginning to change as more individuals and sports are opening up and taking a stand.

I applaud the Red Sox and other sports organizations, reps and players for their efforts to end the bullying of ANYONE.

You can also take a stand and pledge to speak out against intolerance and ignorance by joining the Its Gets Better Project.

Blake Griffin Takes His Turn At Planking [VIDEO]

I’m not sure when the desire or need to “plank” will cease, but until such time here is Blake Griffin giving it a shot….

Moving plank? Ummmm, ok.

Due to the NBA Lockout, I expect to see more shenanigans from the players.

What’s next? Or, should I really be asking that question?
