Anniversary Edition ‘Hard Knocks’ Coming In August

Between the NFL lockout and a handful of teams offering a flat out “no,” to filming, NFL Films and HBO had to move to plan B in the form of an anniversary special for the Hard Knocks series.

Eh.

That’s something we could watch late night on the NFL Network.

What they should have done was flipped the camera around and produced a Hard Knocks Fan Special.  It would have been interesting to see how fans prepare for the coming NFL season.

For example, what are the stories behind their player/team allegiances?  Where do fans go to get their costumes they wear to games?  How are fantasy league drafts prepared for? Who’s taking road trips to training camp?  What are fans game day rituals? What are the favorite local sports bars?

Could have been something special.

Oh well, maybe next season.

Lorenzen Wright Vigil Reveals Family, Friends Feel NBA Players Should Add To Reward

Thursday, slain former NBA player Lorenzen Wright was remembered at a vigil at the Outdoor Plaza of FedExForum in Memphis.

Family, friends and fans gathered to mark the one-year anniversary of Wright’s death, and among remembrances and tears appeared the sentiment that not enough is being done by Wright’s former colleagues to help the cause.

Henry Hooper, a friend of Wright’s, chastised NBA players for failing to support Wright’s family and help raise the city-sponsored reward.
“These guys sit out there with big dollars and make no effort to take care of their own,” Hooper said. “Money talks. Money will get you information.”

Behind that bitter sentiment is pain and frustration that no meaningful advances have been made towards solving the murder.  Essentially, it is a cry for help.

Will any players lend financial help?  Who knows?  It’s their prerogative.  Maybe one player will step up and there will be a snowball effect; maybe not.  If no one offered any assistance before the lockout, it might be a stretch now.

Regardless, the Memphis police still have a job to do, meager reward money funds or not, and hopefully they are about the business of bringing some peace and closure to the Wright family, especially his six children and his mother, Deborah Marion.

Its difficult to imagine that someone out there knows the truth but only the right amount of cash can bring that truth to the surface, but thats the way it is, I guess.

And This Too Is A Sports Quote – Bud Selig Edition

We’ve talked a lot about replay.  There isn’t, in baseball, a large desire to increase replay, but there are certain situations that we’ve looked at that we think might ….we may be amenable to that.  But, time will tell.  You know, we’re still talking about it, and uh, if there are changes, it’ll be modest.

Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig spoke those words during an interview Wednesday on ESPN.

Here’s why….
