And This Too Is A Sports Quote – Bud Selig Edition

We’ve talked a lot about replay.  There isn’t, in baseball, a large desire to increase replay, but there are certain situations that we’ve looked at that we think might ….we may be amenable to that.  But, time will tell.  You know, we’re still talking about it, and uh, if there are changes, it’ll be modest.

Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig spoke those words during an interview Wednesday on ESPN.

Here’s why….

The conversation was a result of a blown call by home plate ump Jerry Meals during a marathon 19-inning Pittsburgh PiratesAtlanta Braves game Tuesday at Turner Field in Atlanta.

Meals called Braves 2nd baseman Julio Lugo safe, when it appeared that Pirates catcher Michael McKenry tagged him out. Meals later admitted he’d made a mistake;  it was the right thing to do although the outcome of the game had already been decided.  The Pirates lost and subsequently filed a grievance with the league office.  Which brings us full circle to the replay debate;  should MLB institute expanded instant replay rules?

Listening to Selig’s statement, it seems it will be a while before any substantial changes take place, but if the decision were yours which would you choose?
