Shane Mosley and Manny Pacquiao square off for the WBO Welterweight Championship this Saturday, May 7th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
GQ Magazine’s Nurit Zunger landed interviews with the prized fighters and we have excerpts for your pre-fight pleasure…
So what do you expect to happen on May 7th?
You know, I definitely believe that I can beat Manny. There’s so many advantages I have against him that people are overlooking. Manny is a touch younger, and throws a good combination and stuff —but size. I have good speed; I’m probably one of the faster fighters that Manny has fought. It’s gonna be a good fight.
What do you think about Mayweather trashing Manny on Twitter?
I think that’s something Manny doesn’t pay attention to anyway. Because if Mayweather was gonna fight, this would be Mayweather sitting here talking to you, not me. I’m sitting here getting ready to fight because I’m willing to fight.
What do you think your biggest challenge in this fight is?
Fighting Mosley, people are expecting too much from me. You know, to win easy. And for me its not that easy, I have to prepare hard, condition and train hard for the fight and do a good job in the ring.
Anybody that you look up to?
Not including myself?? [laughs] Roy Jones, “Sugar” Ray Leonard, Julio Cesar Chavez, Holyfield…there are many.
