Derrick Rose stepping up to pay part of Jonylah Watkins’ funeral costs
CBS Chicago confirms that Derrick Rose has contacted the funeral home, Leak & Sons, that will conduct services for 6-month-old Jonylah Watkins, the baby who died after being shot multiple times while in the care of her father, the apparent target.
Imagine the emotional toll that all the violence in Chicago takes on the Rose family. Derrick is from Englewood (a south side neighborhood), attended the famed Simeon Career Academy, and now he is the city’s “crown prince.” Its got to be hard to relish in that when the hometown you love is in such turmoil.
As a ChiTown, south side native, I know how much it pains ME, so I can only imagine how he feels.
This may not be the first time Derrick has extended himself this way. In September of 2012, it is speculated that he paid for the funeral of rapper Lil’ Jojo, who was gunned down in a drive-by in Englewood.
At some point, this madness has got to stop.
