It’s tough to learn that someone you care about has fallen on hard times, especially when you made history alongside that person.
Steve Kerr can attest to this.
His former Chicago Bulls teammate and comrade, Dennis Rodman, is reportedly broke, ill, and in arrears of child-support payments.
On the “The Waddle & Silvy Show” on ESPN 1000 in Chicago, Kerr expressed his feelings on the subject.
I’m sure Kerr isn’t the only one who was a part of that team, including Coach Phil Jackson whom Rodman considers as a father figure, that has concern for him. According to Kerr, helping Rodman is “something I’m going to look into for sure.”
What can be done, though? Rodman has lived his life, his way, for many years now. Alcohol abuse and late nights do catch up to a person.
I’m tired of hearing about athletes who have lost their way and their money, and I don’t say this in a crass way, but in a “some things need to change” way. It’s just difficult to tell a grown man or woman who gets paid incredible amounts of money for their athletic prowess how to live.

Whats incredible is the ammounts of money these guys are forced to pay for child support. There should be a cap on child support payments. Its consentual and then its like these women won the lottery because I can all but guarantee that well over 90% of these athletes kids never see a dime for college if they choose to go down that road. Be nice to see how the kids live, why dont we ever see stories about that?

You raise interesting points.
Child support payments are calculated based upon the athletes salary at the time. Sadly, he amount of many of those payments are not revisited for adjustment as an athletes income changes or diminishes.
As for the lifestyle’s that the children live or whether or not college tuition is planned is on a case by case basis. I don’t think any parent wants their child’s lifestyle exposed to the masses (except for a few reality stars).
Ball players are not a monolith — many of them fulfill their financial obligations.

They certainly could, but would it really help? Dennis’ woes go beyond money.
