Las Vegas Boxing Gym On Horizon For Floyd Mayweather, Sr.

From boxing site Fighthype, comes news that Floyd Mayweather, Sr. intends to open his own boxing gym in Las Vegas.

To date, Mayweather, Sr., a widely respected trainer, has been training fighters at Johnny Tocco’s Boxing Gym, a Las Vegas mainstay for five decades.

It makes sense that Mayweather,Sr. would operate a gym of his own. He’s super accomplished as a trainer. Of the venture he says,

I just think its time. I got a few guys that are gonna help me run it, but I will do most of the training; just some guys to make sure it’s running smoothly.

The Mayweathers, father and son, have shared a rocky relationship for years, and things escalated again recently on HBO’s 24/7 series where Floyd,Jr. and his dad shared some unkind sentiments about each other.

What begins as a good-natured debate about two female fighters degenerates into a sad family meltdown that’s impossible to look away from as father and son nearly come to blows. They curse each other for several minutes and say horrible things. That either would speak to the other this way is unfortunate, but especially in front of a large group of people at the gym.

Floyd Sr. had his say and then derisively announced that his son’s record would be 41-1 if he put his hands on him.

Floyd Jr. praises Roger’s training ability while ripping his father’s, trashes his dad’s professional fighting career and then kicks him out of the gym.
