Seek the word “classy” in the dictionary and certainly you will find a picture of Derek Jeter there.

Jeter has played his entire career in a New York Yankees uniform, essentially becoming the modern day face of the franchise.

He’s been dubbed Captain Clutch and Mr. November, but now Mr. 3000 can be added to the list. Saturday, the All-Star short stop gained his 3000th hit in front of a sold out home crowd and friends and family, including his parents, sister, and girlfriend/actress Minka Kelly.

Derek Jeter became the first player in New York Yankees history and only the 28th player ever to join the 3000 hit club, joining the likes of Roberto Clemente, Hank Aaron, Peter Rose, Robin Yount, Willie Mays, Dave Winfield, and most recently, Craig Biggio.

I take a lot of pride in going out there every single day and trying to be as consistent as possible,” Jeter said. “I think that’s probably the most difficult thing to do in our sport. Playing well gets you here. Consistency keeps you here. That’s the thing that I’ve always tried to focus on.

Jeter will head into the MLB All-Star break on the highest note, but has opted out of participating in the All-Star game itself. I’m sure he will be feted at a special event, though, so Ballertainment will keep all eyes and ears open.

The 2011 MLB All-Star Game will be held at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ, July 10−12.
