The Lady has an affinity for salt and pepper facial hair and there are few men who do this most-distinguished look justice as does Mr. Julius Winfield Erving II.
In his prime, Dr. J, the Pisces, the native New Yorker, was undeniably talented. He played his college years at UMASS and began his professional career in the ABA (he was arguably that leagues brightest star.) Erving was an integral part of the ABA’s merger with the NBA, where he went on to play for the Philadelphia 76er’s. During his career, he was one who literally changed the game of basketball. His finesse and flash, his skill level and innovation, all contributed to a new excitement and style of play.
His accomplishments? Where do I begin? Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee, member of the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team, NBA Champion, NBA MVP, NBA All-Star (11 times,) NBA All-Star MVP (twice,) ABA Champion (twice,) ABA MVP (twice,) and ABA co-MVP. The list really does go on, but you get the gist.
Dr. J is an iconic figure in the world of sports. His life, personally and professionally, like many high-profile personalities, has had its ups and downs, but he is loved and revered by many, as evidenced by the Converse “Join The Procession” commercial below.
Check the :50 mark. Did you feel his bass*??? HE’S SO GROWN!!!
Thank you, Dr. Chapstick!
On another note, peace to God Shammgod for having one the dopest names in all of sports.
*bass = swagger (a word I will avoid.) Bass is heavy, it carries weight, its funky and it sets the tone. Bass is manly and sexy. “Give the drummer some?” But, of course. 🙂
This is my interpretation, my choice of word.

Mom was a huge 76ers fan growing up. I vaguely remember her screaming throughout the house after Doctor J. won an NBA championship. I recorded Doc’s last game against Milwaukee, I wonder if she still has that VCR tape somewhere in storage?
