Suspect identified in Boston Marathon bombing

No arrests have been made, but officials have identified a suspect in Monday’s bombing at the Boston Marathon through surveillance footage taken from a video camera belonging to retailer Lord & Taylor.

Two prominent national news channels errantly reported that an arrest had been made, which prompted the FBI to issue the following warning to ALL media outlets —

Contrary to widespread reporting, no arrest has been made in connection with the Boston Marathon attack. Over the past day and a half, there have been a number of press reports based on information from unofficial sources that has been inaccurate. Since these stories often have unintended consequences, we ask the media, particularly at this early stage of the investigation, to exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting

In other words, pipe down and FALL BACK.

There is no doubt in my mind that the person(s) responsible for this act of cowardice will be dealt with, but all the speculation, premature accusation, racial prejudice and hatred will be of no help to the investigation.

Remember, three persons were killed — 8-year-old Martin Richard, Lu Lingzi, a Boston University student and restaurant manager Krystle Campbell, 29. Over 100 people were injured and maimed. Focus on all of them.

Thursday, President and Mrs. Obama are scheduled to visit Boston and surviving victims of the attack.
