“Rock bottom was recently,” De La Hoya told Teresa Rodriguez of “Aqui y Ahora.” “Within couple of years, just thinking if my life was even worth it. I don’t have the strength, I don’t have the courage to take my own life, but I was thinking about it.”
De La Hoya has been sober for three months after going through rehab and joining Alcoholics Anonymous. In addition to his battle with drugs (specifically, cocaine) and alchohol, he admitted that he was unfaithful to his wife, from whom he was separated for a time.
Known as the “Golden Boy,” Oscar de la Hoya enjoyed a storied boxing career, with 39 wins, including 30 knock outs and six losses across six weight classes. His final fight was against Manny Pacquiao, a bout that he lost in embarrassing fashion. He retired in 2009.
No one wants to watch their hero fall. Get well soon, Oscar.
