Jayson Williams “Tortured” by Sister’s Death Says Ex-Fiance and Atlanta Housewife Cynthia Bailey

Jayson Williams was an NBA heart throb.  He was 1990’s pretty-boy cute. He was hot when Biggie and Pac ruled the airwaves, then met their demises. Jay-Z and The Fugees had hit debut albums around that time and the NBA was ruled by the Chicago Bulls.

In 2000, Williams was forced to retire after suffering a career-ending leg and knee injury, while playing for the New Jersey Nets. He carried on by becoming a studio analyst (and a very entertaining one at that) for NBC’s NBA coverage.

Unfortunately, Williams’ life changed forever when In 2002, in a tragic occurrence at his New Jersey mansion, he accidentally shot and killed his driver, Costas “Gus” Christophi.

But, according to Cynthia Bailey, the Atlanta Housewife, super model, and Jayson’s ex-fiance, he never got over the death of his sister.

When AIDS happened, before we even new what it was, basically, Jayson’s sister was one of the first big AIDS cases in New York City where you literally had to go in a suit to see them because they didn’t know if you could get it from being in there in the hospital,” she says in an empathetic tone. “She got it from a blood transfusion. But he never recovered from that . . . He just had a great life and then just a very sad life.”

Actually, Williams lost BOTH his sisters to AIDS. His oldest sister Linda died in 1983 at age 26 and his sister Laura followed the same fate five years later.

I am not sure I can recall another athlete who’s life spiraled out of control quite the way Jayson’s did. WIth his careers over, marital woes, a DWI, and financial and legal troubles plagued him. He is now serving a five year sentence in prison for Christofi’s death.

Cynthia Bailey is currently married to restauranteur (?) Peter Thomas. Her entire interview can be found in the June issue of Sister 2 Sister Magazine.

Stardust sprinkles to Crunk and Disorderly.
