What If?

Mr. Jordan made a great point. “Who doesn’t sit here and think, what if?”

What if we realized every dream? What if we were able to accomplish every goal? What if we were perpetually fulfilled?

Let’s be thankful that it usually doesn’t work that way. Let’s relish in the possibilities of something better, something more. Imagine, if you will, that during Michael Jordan’s career, he won a championship every year, or that Barry Sanders’ playing days lasted longer than eight seasons. Close your eyes and ponder the sacrifice made by Curt Flood. What type of choices would players have in shaping the direction of their careers without his courageous action? What would women’s sports be without Title IX? What will college football be if a true playoff system is implemented? What if Pete Rose never bet on baseball? And, if the Rasmussen’s never had the vision for ESPN, I mean, what????

All of these careers and events could have meant more or less within the sports landscape; that is left to individual opinion. The beauty lies in having to wait and see, and in watching it all unfold. Beyond the outcomes, there is strange wonderment; there is “what if?” Another persons “what if” moment, good or bad, can lend inspiration and bring about a call to action. Isn’t that one of the things we love about games of sport?

I don’t know about you, but I can lose myself in sports. There is a thrill, a sense of drama, a frustration or anger, and/or a blissful happiness that can arise from the right play or the wrong call. It feels good to celebrate a victory with a stranger. It can be sad to have to mourn the loss of a hero, but, somehow sadder to watch a hero’s skills diminish. It’s nice to watch a newcomer live up to potential, and even better when someone unheralded smashes expectation.

Ballertainment comes to you in much of the same way. What? If?

What if I returned to doing something I love? What if I were able to recreate some of the magic of an interesting past? Over time, I will share those elements with you. Meanwhile, I invite you to caravan with me through the expanses of the world of sports in all its entertaining and unexpected glory.

Welcome!
