The Steve Nash trade to the Los Angeles Lakers sparked excitement and wonder amongst basketball fans and purists, while leaving some Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks fans a bit miffed.
The Lakers and Suns completed the sign-and-trade deal Wednesday and according to the Los Angeles Times:
It seems like a gamble considering Steve Nash’s age, but this is a clear indication that Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak has not lost his mojo, and that the Buss family (and Kobe Bryant) want to win RIGHT NOW.
Obviously, Nash also wants to win right now, as he turned down a lucrative deal from the Toronto Raptors, a team located in his home country, to be closer to his children and closer to a championship ring and trophy.
The New York Knicks were in serious pursuit of Nash, but that went south quickly when the Lakers came a-callin’.
What will the acquisition of Steve Nash mean to much maligned big man, Dwight Howard? Will the Lakers continue to sacrifice and trade either Andrew Bynum or Pau Gasol for Howard?
Would it be worth it?
I believe Pau can straighten up and fly right, but trading Bynum for Howard seems to be a wash, especially in the maturity department.
