Baltimore Ravens advance to AFC Championship

Baltimore Ravens

Double OT win for the Baltimore Ravens over Denver Broncos

In what has to be one of the best NFL playoff games played in a long time, the Baltimore Ravens defeated the Denver Broncos, 38-35 in double overtime, to advance to the AFC Championship game.

A 47-yard field goal by Justin Tucker sealed the deal for the Ravens, but the road to get there was hard fought.

Joe Flacco, completed 18 passes for 331 yards, including three touchdowns. Most notably, a 70-yard bomb to wide receiver Jacoby Jones near the end of regulation, on third down, tied the game at 35.

Next, the Broncos surprisingly let the clock run out and the Ravens had first possession in overtime which culminated with a punt. Peyton Manning ended up throwing an interception and running plays by Ray Rice after the Ravens assumed possession again, got them within field goal range and the rest is history.

Manning ended the game 28-for-43, 290 yards, three touchdowns and two INT’s.

Ray Lewis, who is retiring at the end of the season, was mostly stoic throughout the game and could be seen on the sidelines quoting scripture. Not knowing whether this would be the final game of his career, he dropped to his knees in tears at games end and was consoled by Ray Rice.

The Baltimore Ravens will meet either the Houston Texans or the New England Patriots next Sunday, January 20th, for the AFC Championship game.
