Andray Blatche not involved in sexual assault, police say

Andray Blatche

Andray Blatche released from questioning in sexual assault investigation

A 21-year old woman was said to be sexually assaulted at a five-star hotel in Philadelphia where the Brooklyn Nets were staying Monday night ahead of a Tuesday contest against the 76ers.

The investigation has revealed that the assault took place in the room/suite of Brooklyn Nets player, Andray Blatche.

The 21-year-old woman told police she was raped by one man and had consensual sex with another, according to police commissioner Charles Ramsey, who spoke to the New York Times. Two other men were reportedly still in custody as of Tuesday evening, as the police tried to gather DNA evidence.

Ramsey seemed to absolve Blatche of any wrongdoing, telling the Times that the Nets player was released without being charged. He was part of the Brooklyn’s 12-man roster for Tuesday’s game against the 76ers.

Blatche and his friends are said to have met the young woman at a strip club.

Athletes are known to frequent strip clubs, and in that regard they are no different from the everyday fella, but what an athlete must remember is that the responsibility for the behavior of his crew lies on him. This young woman’s life will never be the same, and chances are she will be seeking monetary recompense. This is why it is so important to be careful of the company you keep.

Have you ever heard Stephen A. Smith tell the story of a ball player who once bailed his troublesome friend out of jail, handed him a briefcase full of money and sent him on his merry way — for good?

Sometimes, it beez like that.

It might be time for Andray to follow suit.
